Peak Design Revamps the Capture, Slide, and Slide Lite With a 5-Day Kickstarter

My favorite camera accessory manufacturer, Peak Design, just revamped three of their most popular products—the Capture camera clip system, Slide strap, and Slide Lite strap—and launched a special 5-day Kickstarter event for their release.

The Peak Design Capture is the single accessory that I credit with tripling the amount of amazing photos I take while traveling or climbing. Simply having my camera secured to my front backpack strap, instead of stored inside of my backpack, has made a world of difference. I first tried the Capture on Kilimanjaro, and it’s come on every single trip since.

Peak Design’s products are so intuitively designed, and not just that, they’re gorgeous. The Slide straps are just sweet, and super easy to use.

Let’s look at what’s new:

Capture ($69.95)

The all-new Capture is the most secure, convenient, accessible way to carry your camera, period. Unlike a camera strap, Capture keeps your camera rigidly stable while hiking, biking, or moving around the studio. Unlike a camera bag, Capture keeps your camera instantly accessible with the click of a button.

The Capture system includes 2 components: a metal clip that clamps to any backpack strap, belt, or bag, and a tripod-compatible plate that screws into the bottom of your camera. Your camera smoothly locks into the clip, where it is held rigidly and securely. Press the lockable quick-release button to remove.

The new 3rd gen Capture is smaller, lighter, and smoother than ever before. All machined/anodized aluminum construction. Metal quick-release button and locking mechanism holds well over 90 kg (200 lbs). Beautiful new ultra-smooth finish enhances durability, and ultra-low profile design increases comfort.

New and Improved Features:
  • All aluminum build, including quick-release button and locking pin
  • All machined/anodized finish for increased durability and smoothness
  • Smaller and lighter for significantly upgraded comfort
    • 30% lighter
    • 20% narrower
    • 20% lower profile
  • Embedded grip in backplate for maximum slip resistance

GET SLIDE LITE

I for one am excited about these product updates, but I’m just a total fanboy when it comes to Peak Design products (obviously!). They continue to make the best camera carry accessories in my book and I love seeing their iterations on what I already think is awesome.

If you already have a Capture or Slide, is it worth the upgrade?

Maybe, maybe not. Odds are, if you have a Capture clip, it’s still working well and serving its purpose. I know mine are. And the same goes for the Slide strap. These are quality products and the upgrades, though awesome both visually and functionally, don’t change that fact that your existing gear is doing its job.

But you may want to get these new versions if:

  • You often carry multiple cameras and need more straps or clips to support your camera quiver (instead of having to switch accessories from one to the other)
  • You’ve worn out your current Capture (this is unlikely but if anything, the release button may get a little wonky and go first)
  • You have a gear obsession and can’t handle not having the newest stuff

If you don’t already own this stuff, that’s a different story, and I suggest grabbing both. You won’t regret it. Did I mention they make bags too? And they’re sick!
