Exploration Resources
Maps.Me
Never get lost. Hands-down the most useful navigation tool for any traveler. A must have. When you have service or WiFi, download the map for the area you are traveling, and when you don’t have any service, you can still use Maps.Me to get anywhere you need to go.
Lonely Planet
While I generally don’t like to plan too much in my travels, I still definitely like having a Lonely Planet Guide Book handy. Sometimes I barely turn a page, but other times it becomes my bible. With exploration, many things are unreliable. A good ol’ fashion paperback guide book is not one of those things.
Showaround
There’s no reason to be just a mere tourist anymore, not when locals can show you an edgier, more beautiful and more authentic version of their city. Book a Showaround local guide– it’s like having a knowledgeable friend in every city you visit.
Sourced Adventures
Escape the city for the day, weekend, or week. Sourced Adventures, part of 1% for the Planet, offers local and international adventure getaways.
Mountain Project
Rock climbing guides, reports, routes, photos, and forums for climbing and expedition planning purposes.
Hike.io
I’m always looking for the best hikes and climbs wherever I go. Hike.io offers detailed trail info, beautiful photos, full screen maps, and GPX downloads for free. It’s all crowd-sourced, beautifully diverse, and ad-free without sign up.
Trip Tribe
Get matched with the right trips and the right people for you. Find outdoorsy singles, yoga lovers, hiking addicts, foodies, and more.
Hey Lets
Find experiences that locals recommend. HeyLets has a beautiful interface for discovering what to do in new cities. Filter by arts & entertainment, dining, drinking & nightlife, shopping, outdoor recreation, and more. I love the simplicity!
Dark Sky
Hyper-local weather info, right where you’re standing. Plan your adventures for the day accordingly.
Travel Txt
Select the city you’re going to visit and for only $1 receive a text message full of things to do, see and taste there on the day of your arrival.
TripScout
Self-guided city tours from local experts. High quality audio guides and offline maps with a quirky twist and even the more obscure points of interest.
Under30Experiences
Group travel for millennials. Simple as that. Discover the community you’ve been craving.
Esplorio
The simplest way to record and share your travels. Trip tracking without data usage, and effortless sharing with family and friends.
here
here is an authentic, social map of places worth sharing and remembering – whether it be a special place in your hometown, an amazing spot from your travels, or the location of breaking news.
walkli
Crowdsourced sightseeing maps and walking routes for exploring a city beyond its tourism sites. It’s like having a friend in every city map out the best ways to explore based on your interests.
